Southbroom Beach View - Hibiscus Coast, South Africa
Indian Ocean waves break over dark rocks and roll up a sandy beach on this stretch of the Hibiscus Coast, between Ramsgate and the village of Southbroom, on the south coast of South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province.
Southbroom began as a mission in 1884, and the village was officially founded in 1933. Its name comes from a family home in England, and the uMbizane River forms its northern boundary, with the Kaba River to the south.
The village is known for its small 18-hole golf course right along the coastline, which opened in 1939. Five beaches lie close by, and Marina Beach and Trafalgar Beach both hold Blue Flag status for clean water and safety.
Did You Know? Every winter, huge shoals of sardines travel up this coast in the sardine run, drawing dolphins, sharks, gannets and whales close to shore.
