Majete Waterhole Cam 1 - Chikwawa, Malawi
Elephant families gather around an elongated waterhole in this live view from Majete Wildlife Reserve, Malawi. The open banks leave plenty of room for animals to approach, while a low stone edge borders part of the pool. Scattered trees provide patches of shade behind the water.
Camera 1 takes in the clearing and its woodland backdrop. When elephants visit, adults and calves can appear together along the bank, drinking or stepping into the pool. Between visits, the exposed ground reveals footprints and the paths animals take toward the water.
Majete lies in the Lower Shire Valley in southern Malawi. Its mix of woodland, grassland, and hills supports buffalo, zebras, antelope, and large predators. Waterholes bring some of those animals into the same small space, although visitors and activity vary throughout the day.
Did You Know? Elephants were reintroduced to Majete in 2006 after disappearing from the reserve through poaching.
